Offensive Truth

Hello fellow zobopians!  I think people nowadays can’t handle or, in this era of “fake news”, don’t want to deal with the truth.  Speak the truth then you shall perish!  Yeah, that’s the world we’re living in now.  Everybody wants Free Speech without the consequences.  Everybody wants to rule the world…that’s from a ‘Tears For Fears’ song.

The offensive truth is everybody can’t have everything they want.  It’s TRUE!

If you shut down Free Speech, you get Fascism.

If you shut down Free Speech, you get Communism.

If you DON’T shut down Fascism, you LOSE Free Speech.

If you DON’T shut down Communism, you LOSE Free Speech.

Comprende conundrum?

Smash Fascism!

Fascism?

Smash Communism!

Communism?

…Until neXt time…

Trigger Warning: There are no Safe Spaces

Trigger Warning

©2015-2016 vanilla-vanilla

Hello fellow zobopians!  It’s me again.  Today’s rant is all about “trigger warnings” and “safe spaces“.  Do we as a society need trigger warning labels like the recording industry?  Here’s a trigger warning for you…”Buyer Beware”.  I think that saying is from ancient Roman times.  So that makes it a 2000 year old warning.  So there…you’ve been warned!

Today’s coddled young people want to up-end the status quo with their street-based agitation.  But in order to do that they must make society uncomfortable to bring about change but yet these coddled street-based agitators, (a.k.a. whiny crybabies), don’t like being made uncomfortable on college campuses and other real world places, so they demand “trigger warnings” and “safe spaces”.  Does anyone besides me see the irony and/or hypocrisy here?

To bring this into perspective from the school of Chicago boy economics…recently the University of Chicago issued a statement telling incoming freshmen it won’t support “Trigger Warnings” or “Safe Spaces”.

Geoffrey Stone, law professor and past provost at the U. of C. said, “The right thing to do is empower the students, help them understand how to fight, combat and respond, not to insulate them from things they will have to face later.”

I totally agree with this statement.  You can’t change the world by being a over-sensitive, coddled crybaby.

Until neXt time…

The Jane Addams I didn’t know

Hello fellow world zobopians!  Do you even like being called a zobopian?  If you follow this blog, you’re one!

Well anyway, it’s the start of yet another school year for Public Schools…what’s left of them.  Public schools are being closed and replaced by charter schools so fast it makes me wonder how long until the death of public institutions in America.  Public Housing is pretty much gone and buried…I mean privatized.  Remember New Orleans?  O.K. I’m getting off target here.  I just recently learned the community organizer Jane Addams was the head of a teachers pension fund way back in 1905.  You can read about the history of her and the fund below.  It’s sad after more than a hundred years America is still having a problem of giving teachers their due.

The Chicago Tribune featured a Perspective piece written by CTPF Executive Director Charles A. Burbridge in the September 17, 2015, edition. The text of the article appears below:
In 1905, the Chicago Teachers’ Pension Fund faced a crisis. There wasn’t enough money coming in to pay for retirement benefits.

The president of the pension fund, Jane Addams – yes, the famous community organizer – turned to the Illinois General Assembly for help. A landmark law passed in 1907 required employees and employers to contribute to the fund and set up an elected pension board to oversee investments.

The retirement security that Addams protected for teachers is at risk again.

Pension holidays taken by Chicago Public Schools and approved by lawmakers have capsized the system and will cost taxpayers billions of dollars to correct. It’s just the kind of action Addams sought to guard against more than 100 years ago.

We must protect our teachers and the taxpayers from these shortsighted decisions.

The first step: Stop talking about CPS declaring bankruptcy. That’s a diversion from the real issues of education policy and funding. CPS bankruptcy – essentially allowing the state to insulate itself from the problem that it helped create – would be morally reprehensible. There are many parties responsible for this crisis. No one should be allowed to simply walk away.

The second step: Take three legislative actions to fix the system and prevent future funding failures. Those three actions are:
  • Make payments to the Chicago Teachers’ Pension Fund mandatory by law. Pension funds across the country have something in common: Payments are mandated and the funds have strong tools to use if a payment is missed. Pension payments are not optional; they are promised to Chicago’s schoolteachers as part of their contract. We have to stop pitting today’s teachers against yesterday’s teachers. Lawmakers, city and school leaders must recognize that teacher compensation and retirement funding are one in the same.
  • Commit to an actuarial-based funding plan that covers annual contributions and unfunded liability. Fully funded pension plans let experts (actuaries) determine the annual contribution needed to keep the plans stable. The Chicago teachers’ fund is in a hole. We must stop digging. The problem was created by pension holidays. It can’t be solved by more pension holidays.
  • Make monthly payments to the pension fund, not a once-a-year payment. Pension plans work when today’s benefits are paid by yesterday’s contributions and investment earnings, and today’s contributions are invested to pay for tomorrow’s benefits. Prudent investment practices demand that payments to the fund provide a constant stream of revenue that can be invested throughout the year. Monthly payments would save Chicago taxpayers tens of millions annually.
A century ago, Addams knew that for Chicago to thrive, teachers’ pensions needed to be protected. If we are to thrive for the next century, that fundamental principle must never again be forgotten.

White Flight Vs Future Majority

Hello fellow zobopians! Yeah, I know. I haven’t post an original blog post in a while. I’ve been re-blogging other posts by other bloggers. They were good reads I had to share. Thanks for reading!

I’ve been thinking about the concept of Black Americans becoming the “Future Majority” in the USA. I’m not all that excited about it. Think about it, if you are a social majority in America and “still” have no social power to show for it, what’s the point in bragging about it? It’s like the fact that Black Americans are a $1 trillion-a-year consumer spenders. What do we have to show for it? Where’s the “Black Power” at?

Food for thought right? Well, let me get to my stream of thought for today. I was thinking about what the “past” effects of white flight will have on the “future” Black Majority in America. Because of the social aversion of white flight, white people don’t want to live near Blacks; don’t want to go to school with Blacks; don’t want to play with Blacks; and when these white kids grow up to become adults, they won’t want to hire Blacks in employment. And that’s why there’s no DIVERSITY in corporate America and Silicon Valley. Duh!

This is what white flight and re-segregation has done and will do to the future majority of America. So, whether you like it or not, school integration, at least, is the best solution for the future of America. At least for us Black people…Damn!

Africa Slave Trade

African slave trade

Greetings fellow zobopians! Finally got my thoughts together on another touchy subject. Yeah, you know me! I’ve been agonizing about the idea of unity with the African diaspora. You know, people of African descent. We truly are the Tower of Babel!  Reply…you know I’ll reply back on this.

{Setting: 400 years ago…give or take.}
According to some historical books and historian Henry Louis Gates, Jr. slavery was a social custom on the continent of Africa. Slavery either existed in Africa or it was imported from the Roman world of the Arabic realm centuries earlier. My question is, why did African tribes and societies accept and allow slavery in the first place? If Africans knew then what we know now, I’m sure slavery would have been fought against [more] furiously and never would have been accepted so meekly. (Hindsight truly is twenty-twenty [20/20]). What was an Africans’ worth when tribes were selling off their own or capturing and selling others into slavery? What was an Africans’ worth when white Europeans came to Africa in ships to trade European goods, (junk by modern standards), for human beings? We were NEVER one people!

{Setting: Western hemisphere – [Slave era] USA, Caribbean and South America.}
After transporting African chattel slaves to their plantation destination the slavers originally grouped their slaves by their respective tribes. Not realizing that an African tribe/social group spoke a common language, the Africans were able to communicate to each other in order to form an insurrection or revolt. White slavers quickly became observant and noticed that Africans spoke many languages and dialects. So, upon realizing this, the slavers began to mix up their slaves from different tribes and ethnic groups. After this slave management technique the African slaves were unable to communicate to each other effectively to organize insurrections. Africa then, and probably now, have over 800 languages.  White slavers in other colonies recognized this in order to use this language difference against Africans. It’s Divide and Conquer. We were NEVER one people!

{Setting: Fast forward to present – 21st century world.}
Africa is still a continent comprised of many, many tribes and ethnic groups. [Conflict!] Still comprised of many, many languages and dialects. [Failure to communicate!] Plus many religions too! [More conflict!] In the Caribbean people of African descent, in their respective island country, speak their common language now; whether it be Spanish, French, English, etc. or whatever language their former slave masters spoke. In South America most of the people speak Spanish, except for Brazil which speak Portuguese…how unique is that? It just goes to show, even the white European slavers didn’t speak one common language. And yet they oppressed human beings based on one common aspect: “Color Prejudice”. [the color Black] (There is no such thing as RACE people!). In the diaspora known as Black America we also now speak one common language: English. There have been, and probably still now, Black American educators who insist that we as a people speak a different dialect of English; called Ebonics or ‘Black English’. (That episode caused a lot of head shaking in the Black community). Whatever language we do speak, we have a failure to communicate! Modern day people of African descent have evolved into a diverse diaspora outside the continent. (Africa was always diverse). But where is the UNITY? “UNITY in DIVERSITY” is a phrase that has to mean something but what do we have to show for it?

How can anyone’s Gmail account be over the limit when the limit is astronomical. Computer storage is cheap and expansive. Scammers think we’re all dumb!

Man O’ man, are they out to get us & you! Hello fellow zobopians! I don’t know what a link purporting to warn me about something has a name , http://gofu203.riverplatewinsitall.com/591204799128a63777034145091400 ; notice the word “install” in the link name? Did you notice it’s mis-spelled?

Here’s the e-mail below I received from their server :

Dear Reader,

Get ready.

Because a major scandal has broken.

It has to do with what we believe to be a conspiracy between the U.S. government and some of the biggest food producers in America.

This topic of this story is so controversial, Fox News banned a story on it from being aired… and fired the two reporters who covered it.

If you’re happy with the president, do not watch this presentation.

This could be the one that finally brings him down.

[CLICK HERE] for the shocking story.

I’m warning you, though. What you’re about to see might turn your stomach.

Rivalry Between Black And White Women?

Hello fellow zobopians. I’ve been reading a collection of history books called ‘Sex and Race’, volumes 1 through 3. Written and self published by J. A. Rogers (1942). Some of the passages don’t really surprise me but I’ve learned things that were never taught in history classes I ever had.  [So much for Black studies.]

I learned of a point of view from a blog post that a modern-day Black woman’s worth is only $5 (U.S.). Seriously? During the era of slavery a white woman couldn’t fetch more than $5. But hey…that was when white’s were sold as slaves too. Yep, that’s right!

Are today’s white women envious of Black women? Here’s an excerpt from page 214 from ‘Sex and Race’, vol. 2 :

“There is a soft, winning, captivating way about some of these colored girls that makes them perfectly irresistible. I don’t wonder at the envy, rage, and jealousy of our white women, they can’t help being conscious of their inferiority in this respect.”

Did you know that this kind of behavior led to broken marriages and divorce during the slave era?  Yes…white women left their husbands because the white men couldn’t keep their hands off the Black female slaves.  Ironic isn’t it?

It kind of makes you wonder about the so-called War on Women these days.
