The Talented 10th Law Of Averages

Hello fellow zobopians!  Wow!  It’s been a while since I wrote anything original.  At least I re-blogged.  Reading is fundamental, right?  Alright, time to get to the nitty gritty.

I’ve been thinking about Black America’s so-called “Talented 10th”.  If you know anything about William Edward Burghardt “W. E. B.” Du Bois, then you see where that term comes from.  It’s been over 100 years since Mr. Du Bois wrote about the Talented 10th or as it should be called nowadays is the “Black Talented”.  I would like to think after 100+ years we would have more than 10 percent of the Black population that’s considered ‘talented’.

If Du Bois called one part of Black America the ‘Talented 10th’, what was the other 90% called?  Would it be the “Least Talented”?  When I thought about this scenario, you realize that Affirmative Action is “only” for the Black Talented.  How does Affirmative Action help the Least Talented?  How the hell can 10% of the Black Talented up-lift the other 90% of a population?  This is where I started thinking about the Law of Averages.  [The law of averages is a layman’s term for a belief that the statistical distribution of outcomes among members of a small sample must reflect the distribution of outcomes across the population as a whole.]  I don’t see how a small part of Black America can help a greater portion beyond their own small talented numbers.

Consider this;  when Napoleon invaded Russia in 1812 he lost about 10% of his Grand Army.  And with that he lost that war!  I read some ago the reason he lost was because his Grande Army became demoralized after the loss of soldiers.  They probably had Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) too.

Now, fast forward to now, the 21st century, and I keep hearing about how Black college students, the Black Talented (10th), having PTSD and other traumas due to white micro-aggression.  I think when it comes to the war on micro-aggression on Black students, I don’t see Black America winning a war against anything or anybody!

P.S.  Will the Talented 10th “pick at” dead people OR “pick up” where other people leave off?

P.S.S.  The Black Talented should never let anybody see them cry.  A.K.A. whiny crybabies.

O.K. that’s it for now…until neXt time…

White Flight Vs Future Majority

Hello fellow zobopians! Yeah, I know. I haven’t post an original blog post in a while. I’ve been re-blogging other posts by other bloggers. They were good reads I had to share. Thanks for reading!

I’ve been thinking about the concept of Black Americans becoming the “Future Majority” in the USA. I’m not all that excited about it. Think about it, if you are a social majority in America and “still” have no social power to show for it, what’s the point in bragging about it? It’s like the fact that Black Americans are a $1 trillion-a-year consumer spenders. What do we have to show for it? Where’s the “Black Power” at?

Food for thought right? Well, let me get to my stream of thought for today. I was thinking about what the “past” effects of white flight will have on the “future” Black Majority in America. Because of the social aversion of white flight, white people don’t want to live near Blacks; don’t want to go to school with Blacks; don’t want to play with Blacks; and when these white kids grow up to become adults, they won’t want to hire Blacks in employment. And that’s why there’s no DIVERSITY in corporate America and Silicon Valley. Duh!

This is what white flight and re-segregation has done and will do to the future majority of America. So, whether you like it or not, school integration, at least, is the best solution for the future of America. At least for us Black people…Damn!

Free Range Parenting?

Hello there world zobopians! I was watching World News Tonight on the ABC TV network and they had a report on ‘free range parenting’. Why are we as a society equating parenting to the raising of chickens? Maybe it’s because we destroy our young, perhaps? Anyway…I had to compose a rant about it…here goes:

free range

Free Range Society

The state of Maryland, USA has a law that states a child cannot be left unattended outside the home and/or school areas. [That means the kids need to have their parents hold their hands or become extreme helicopter parents…GOOD GRIEF!]

[Race Card Spoiler ALERT!]

I commend white Maryland parents that allow their kids ‘free range’ in this country. At least white parents, in Maryland at least, don’t have to worry about gang-land drive-by shootings. But the other social monsters are out there: child abductions, child molesters, bullies. It’s a dangerous world out here!  When white kids go missing, they get media publicity; they get cash rewards offered when reported missing; they get their computer enhanced face on milk cartons.  [Do Black kids get that?]

I’m glad to see white people are so concerned about their kids walking around free as a bird.  Even the Maryland police pull over these kids, then (safely) detain them until their parents come to claim them.  [Do Black kids get that?]

I’m sure Black parents wish they had it this good.  Black people in general are not allowed “free range” of anything.  That’s why they keep getting shot by cops!  [END RANT]

Africa Slave Trade

African slave trade

Greetings fellow zobopians! Finally got my thoughts together on another touchy subject. Yeah, you know me! I’ve been agonizing about the idea of unity with the African diaspora. You know, people of African descent. We truly are the Tower of Babel!  Reply…you know I’ll reply back on this.

{Setting: 400 years ago…give or take.}
According to some historical books and historian Henry Louis Gates, Jr. slavery was a social custom on the continent of Africa. Slavery either existed in Africa or it was imported from the Roman world of the Arabic realm centuries earlier. My question is, why did African tribes and societies accept and allow slavery in the first place? If Africans knew then what we know now, I’m sure slavery would have been fought against [more] furiously and never would have been accepted so meekly. (Hindsight truly is twenty-twenty [20/20]). What was an Africans’ worth when tribes were selling off their own or capturing and selling others into slavery? What was an Africans’ worth when white Europeans came to Africa in ships to trade European goods, (junk by modern standards), for human beings? We were NEVER one people!

{Setting: Western hemisphere – [Slave era] USA, Caribbean and South America.}
After transporting African chattel slaves to their plantation destination the slavers originally grouped their slaves by their respective tribes. Not realizing that an African tribe/social group spoke a common language, the Africans were able to communicate to each other in order to form an insurrection or revolt. White slavers quickly became observant and noticed that Africans spoke many languages and dialects. So, upon realizing this, the slavers began to mix up their slaves from different tribes and ethnic groups. After this slave management technique the African slaves were unable to communicate to each other effectively to organize insurrections. Africa then, and probably now, have over 800 languages.  White slavers in other colonies recognized this in order to use this language difference against Africans. It’s Divide and Conquer. We were NEVER one people!

{Setting: Fast forward to present – 21st century world.}
Africa is still a continent comprised of many, many tribes and ethnic groups. [Conflict!] Still comprised of many, many languages and dialects. [Failure to communicate!] Plus many religions too! [More conflict!] In the Caribbean people of African descent, in their respective island country, speak their common language now; whether it be Spanish, French, English, etc. or whatever language their former slave masters spoke. In South America most of the people speak Spanish, except for Brazil which speak Portuguese…how unique is that? It just goes to show, even the white European slavers didn’t speak one common language. And yet they oppressed human beings based on one common aspect: “Color Prejudice”. [the color Black] (There is no such thing as RACE people!). In the diaspora known as Black America we also now speak one common language: English. There have been, and probably still now, Black American educators who insist that we as a people speak a different dialect of English; called Ebonics or ‘Black English’. (That episode caused a lot of head shaking in the Black community). Whatever language we do speak, we have a failure to communicate! Modern day people of African descent have evolved into a diverse diaspora outside the continent. (Africa was always diverse). But where is the UNITY? “UNITY in DIVERSITY” is a phrase that has to mean something but what do we have to show for it?

Human Race Vs Alien Race

Hello fellow zobopians! Long time no see? Well, I did re-blog some other posts to tie myself over until I gather my thoughts on things in life.

I was wondering since the issue of ‘race’ keeps rearing its ugly head. What if…an alien race or species came to Earth for any reason, good or evil; would we as humans come together or would we divide up into racial factions and make side deals with the aliens?

Something to think about huh?

They See Us, They Don’t Want Us

Hello fellow world zobopians! I took some time to gather my thoughts on the world…

Black people around the world are NOT invisible! We never were and we never ARE. If Black people were invisible white Europeans never would’ve wanted Africans as slaves. I think Ralph Ellison, (author of the book ‘Invisible Man’), was wrong. As I’m composing this blog post I’m watching a K-pop, (South Korean pop music), TV music show. It’s amazing how Black American culture is appropriated. Like Hip-Hop, R&B, rap, jazz and dreadlocks. Do Asians style their hair in dreadlocks? Don’t get me wrong, I like K-pop; going on 5 years now. (Seriously, you should listen to rap in Korean…it’s different.)

Other ethnic and social groups do the same thing when it comes to Black ‘cultural appropriation’. I won’t use the word ‘race’ because there’s no such thing as separate races among the human species. [Wow! All that to avoid saying the word, ‘race’.] By now you’re probably thinking how much do Black people appropriate? Personally I don’t know and don’t notice as much. But if anyone has been paying attention, when a Black person of any age does something beyond the norms of the Black social group, they are accused of…”acting white”. Like getting an education, what music one listens to, talking/communicating a certain way beyond the norms of the social group. I don’t even know what these “norms” are. One either knows them or not. It’s as if the Black social group is telling “we” shouldn’t act/talk/walk like “them”, but everybody wants to act/talk/walk like “us”. Our swagger and soul is up for grabs for the whole world and yet “we”, Black folks, should culturally isolate ourselves form the rest of society. How the hell does one do that? We as a people are too entangled with other humans to be isolated.

The whole world spends money and effort to isolate ‘themselves’ from Black people. Nobody wants to live by/near Black people. Nobody wants to hire Black people. Nobody wants to BE a Black person. They see US, they don’t want US.

Black people may ‘feel’ invisible but in reality Black people have never been invisible. Four centuries of slavery doesn’t make us invisible. When the police shoots an unarmed Black person, that person wasn’t invisible. When white people lock their car doors, Black people are not invisible. The reality is…people choose to ignore Black people. The world sees US, they just don’t want US…except our culture and money of course.

That’s all for now…I’ll SEE you next time…

Another Year Another Black History Month

Hello fellow world zobopians! Yep, It’s another Black History Month…2015 edition. And what do WE, (Negroes, Colored folk, people of color, African American, …etc., aargh), have to show for it? What have we accomplished? Please do not mention the election of Barack Obama as the 1st Black President! He’s not Superman.

With all the social unrest over the situation in Ferguson, Missouri and a Black man being choked to death in New York state and other places, we as Black people haven’t changed the perception, (to white people), that we deserve ‘Respect & Regard’ for our lives. Yes, I know “we as a people” have accomplished much. It’s in the arena of social perception that we have failed. White people are still afraid of Black people! It’s “cause & effect”. If people are still apprehensive of Black people (cause), then people will mis-treat us with deadly consequences (effect).

When non-Black people are are “still” afraid of…Black people, then Black Lives Don’t Matter! It all comes down to PERCEPTION. How does the world perceive Black people? Are we a threat? Other people are threats too.

In this world ALL LIVES MATTER. So this Black History Month we should learn as much about the history of a social group we sometimes call…the Black Diaspora. When you learn Black History you learn how the world really works.

Until neXt time…#BlackLivesMatter…

“Why are you telling me your secrets?”

Hello fellow zobopians! America has a lot secrets it doesn’t tell its Black citizens. Reading novels by Black authors can give a guy lots of insight to my country of USA. Reading is fundaMENTAL. I’m currently reading a novel titled, ‘Then Man Who Cried I Am’ by John A. Williams. Here’s an excerpt to give you an idea of how America may really be:

“It must be pretty awful for a white man to learn that one of the things wrong with this society is that it is not based on dollars directly or alone, but dollars denied men who are Black so dollars can go into the pockets of men who are white. It must make white men ponder a kind of weakness that will make them deny work to Black men so that work can be done by who are white. How it must anger them to know finally that we know they deny women who are white to Black men, while they have taken Black women at will for generations.” [From part 6 of the book.]

The Pacification Of Ferguson

Hello fellow zobopians! To the point…

How many Ferguson, Missouri police officers are Black? Don’t the Ferguson citizens want to become police officers? That’s one way to end racist police terror.

How many members of the Ferguson, Missouri town/city council are Black? Don’t registered voters of Ferguson want to go into politics?

Will there ever be a Black person as mayor of Ferguson? I’m not playing the Race Card; just saying. Citizens will have to overcome their inertia and self-defeat to change the future. If things don’t change soon, Ferguson will continue to be pacified by a predominate White Citizens Council.

This is what one gets when you read Frantz Fanons‘ ‘Wretched of the Earth’ book.  Until neXt time…

Rivalry Between Black And White Women?

Hello fellow zobopians. I’ve been reading a collection of history books called ‘Sex and Race’, volumes 1 through 3. Written and self published by J. A. Rogers (1942). Some of the passages don’t really surprise me but I’ve learned things that were never taught in history classes I ever had.  [So much for Black studies.]

I learned of a point of view from a blog post that a modern-day Black woman’s worth is only $5 (U.S.). Seriously? During the era of slavery a white woman couldn’t fetch more than $5. But hey…that was when white’s were sold as slaves too. Yep, that’s right!

Are today’s white women envious of Black women? Here’s an excerpt from page 214 from ‘Sex and Race’, vol. 2 :

“There is a soft, winning, captivating way about some of these colored girls that makes them perfectly irresistible. I don’t wonder at the envy, rage, and jealousy of our white women, they can’t help being conscious of their inferiority in this respect.”

Did you know that this kind of behavior led to broken marriages and divorce during the slave era?  Yes…white women left their husbands because the white men couldn’t keep their hands off the Black female slaves.  Ironic isn’t it?

It kind of makes you wonder about the so-called War on Women these days.
