Dear Black College Students

Hello world zobopians!  And you too college students.  Do I need to issue a disclaimer for sensitive Black readers?  I mean come on…have more ego strength will you…you whiny, crybabies!  Sticks and stones may break my bones but white micro-aggression can never hurt me.

Wake up people!  The social activist Bayard Rustin said the statement, below, February 13, 1969 for the New York Amsterdam News:

“For if we are to face the truth, however painful this may be, we must recognize that Black people have been brutalized in the past by inferior segregated education and economic deprivation to the point where they have been put at a disadvantage with whites.  Consequently, when they are placed in a difficult competitive situation, such as obtains at predominantly white universities, their immediate impulse is to retreat into themselves and establish a Black [studies] curriculum with separate – and lower- standards by which their performance shall be judged.”

This was written back then in 1969 and look at what’s happening on college campuses recently.  Has anything changed?  Can micro-aggression kill anybody?  This is why nobody comes to the Black community for help…we can’t seem to handle the psychological stress!  It’s really disappointing!

Until neXt time…

Police Brutality-Then & Now

Hello fellow zobopians! Happy New Year if I didn’t say that last time. Wow…2015 was the year of Police Brutality. I wonder what 2016 will bring America. Police brutality seems to be the bane of America’s existence. Bayard Rustin, a citizen of the Civil Rights movement, once wrote about police brutality back in the 1960’s [Los Angeles Watts area]:

“Police brutality must be stopped! We must everywhere be part of the cry for civilian review boards, not in the naive belief that they are a panacea but in the conviction that police conduct is not the exclusive responsibility of commissions and politicians. Police must be answerable to the citizenry they presumably protect, and if they have been educated to any other concept of their role, now is the time to reeducate them.” Mr. Rustin wrote this back before I was born!

Mr Rustin also wrote:
“We must create a situation in which backlashers are politically neutralized by having to pay too high a price for the exercise of racist impulses.”

History truly has a way of repeating itself.

Until neXt time…

The dangers of Populism

The GOP of today is not the Grand Old Party of Abe Lincoln.

As you may know, prior to the festive season, Donald Trump got himself into some hot water, with some very unchristian comments aimed at Muslims. He said, he’d like to ban all Muslims from the US “until we can figure out what’s going on” (of course this very statement shows how clueless he and his supporters are as regards recent US foreign policy in the region). Needless to say, this was seen as going too far, even by the fairly high bar of Republicans. Even Bill O’Reilly thought it was racist!

An all too common problem for Republicans candidates is the need to outdo one another in terms of taking increasingly insane positions. The GOP bigot brigade expect a candidate to be a bible thumping, pro-gun, global warming denying, young earth creationists, xenophobic who rejects vaccines and “science. Consider that the major black…
